Our goal for the internship program is to provide college students with work experience within the financial services industry. They will be exposed to the following services that our advisors provide to the clients: retirement planning, investment strategies, risk management solutions, college planning, executive benefits planning, and business succession planning. Each intern will complete the program with a wealth of financial planning knowledge and connections, as well as their own financial plan.
Our internship program provides college students with financial services industry experience in a high-performing work environment. To learn the internal operations and work in real-time situations, Ascent Wealth Partners’ interns rotate through each of our planning, investment, and insurance departments. Interns will learn from team members within each department and are assigned applicable tasks. They will gain an understanding of Northwestern Mutual systems, processes and products, financial/retirement/tax planning concepts, and work alongside our team members to conduct daily business. Each intern will observe advisor-client meetings and are allotted weekly time with one of our advisors or team members to learn more about specific areas of the business.

“During my internship at Ascent Wealth Partners, I had the incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the financial planning field under the guidance of skilled and professional financial representatives. I dove into studying various types of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and annuities, learning how to effectively diversify investment portfolios tailored to individual client risk tolerance. I also expanded my knowledge by learning about different life insurance policies and the various types of qualified and non-qualified investment accounts, as well as when they are beneficial based on tax purposes.
One of the most valuable lessons I gained was personal development — learning how to conduct myself in professional environments and growing into a more confident and polished professional. Additionally, I observed how client investment strategies evolve as they approach retirement, allowing me to see firsthand how strategic adjustments are made to secure long-term financial stability.”
